Temperature is about 78. Divider is back in as mine was beating on yours.

Your fish is obviously just better than mine in every way (IF they are males)....I borrowed this pic from Jeff...I still think it is a pair...Would be more than happy to come get it at any time if it does not work out.

I notice the tail spots, and spotting down the lateral line as being tell tail...Could be just my old rickety eyes?

Interesting thread, hard to tell. 'Only' from the first photo the shape and profile looks female to me. I understand that this is the dominant fish too.

This is more likely down to the introduced fish invading her space, females can be just as rough as males. I'm not sure about the other fish. Sub dominate behaviour dosen't mean female either.

The introduced fish appears thicker on the photos, so could be a male.

Obviously this is only going from looking at the photos. You would probably have a better idea watching them.

You will certainly have your work cut out trying to get two mature fish to pair.

Good luck on the project, hope it works out.:)

I wasn't in any way trying to insinuate that my fish is better in any way. It just ends up that mine is more aggressive and yours is more passive. Your fish actually has much more impressive looking unpaired fins when it shows them. The caudal fin in particular. I apologize if you thought I was trying to bash your fish. (That is if indeed the bolded "obviously" is internet sarcasm or not, hard to tell!)

Thanks, they show limited interest through the divider, and I can leave them with the divider out for a couple hours but the chasing becomes a bit much after that.

My argentea will flare and posture but Rico's doesn't want anything to do with that, and keeps it's fins close and just tries to hide.

The tank has been fully rearranged twice now since I put them together, and I move everything around when I pull the divider so neither fish has much of a territory to defend.

I see a lot of visual differences as well, but it could just be that yours came from Jeff and mine from Conkel so the fish locale could be different leading to morphological differences.

No bro, no net sarcasm....Mine never masks up like yours, and has absolutely no nauchal hump. Yours has better color, and to me looks to be the thicker one. Mine got all shook up from the RD, as I told you...She is probably scarred for life now from constantly running for her life, the whole time she lived with him. My tanks were stuffed at the time, and I had no choice. I netted the RD out at least 100 times to calm him down. I was being sincere..Your fish is better in all ways if they are both males. If mine turns out to be female, then there is no comparison. I thought my post was not 100% clear after I posted it, and then figured you would know 100% that I am on your team. Looks like you gave me the benefit of the doubt, which I appreciate. Size wise, I am starting to think mine might be male, but I have not seen a male with spotting down the lateral line...And all females that I have seen, have eye spots like a uro...The males seem to have much smaller more circular ones. Only time will tell.

I thought these guys go by the small black lateral spots (not the big blotches)?

This is Jeff's female - no spots.

That fish has spots on its lateral line...Two bold ones.

One of the more glaring differences is that my fish has the very small body spots over the entire body, where spizz's just has it north of the lateral line.

Of the very few confirmed female photos I've seen they don't have any small spotting, but that could be breeding coloration.

I don't know!

I borrowed this from Polomax24 for comparison. This is his big male.
