i said 20 inches which is 50cm.
20"!?! Lol holy crap--are you sure?? I thought they only got 14 or so in the aquarium. 20" would be on heck of a beast! Time for me to do some research.

I remember a source saying 20 inches, but this is what the max size is according to Cichlid profiles http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=10520"!?! Lol holy crap--are you sure?? The thing is fish don't always reached their max size. In fact I bet most syn don't make it past 13in let alone 17.That is a big fish. Almost don't seem right to put one in a 6ft tank with festae, JD, & red tex. Are you sure I can get away with this Miguel.

Got lots of drift wood & rocks which is good for them while they are small, but the way I have it setup I don't think it will be much good to them when there big as all the caves etc are kinda small. Do they need places to hide when they get bigger.Yeah, I'd think you'd be okay. just make sure theres a few different little hangouts for the fish.
Is that Vieja. Are they common. Not sure I can get that here in Aus. You guys are spoiled with variety over there. Heck, u can even keep a chImp as a pet.I absolutely agree.
Op, if you can deal with the initial slow growth time, maybe look into getting a juvenile or sub adult Breidorhi. Breidorhis only top out around 8 or 9".

There nice fish, but Im sure I still want a Syn & I'm sure I've seen them here before. When u say impressed are u talking about the Festae. A guy up the road from me breeds them. Top quality too. Also lucky enough to have a great cichlid specialist only one km from my place. Charges like a wounded scrub bull though..Lol yeah they are vieja. I was actually pretty impressed seeing that you're from Brisbane and even have what you have. If you can find them, they are called Vieja Breidorhi or Paratheraps Breidorhi. Vieja was actually the "old" classification and anything that was classified as vieja is now either Paratheraps or Paraneetroplus...but Vieja has just stuck with hobbyists.
