Last night I was transferring my silver arowana and motoro from my 125 to my 250.

The aro jumped out of the tank getting water all over me. He is lucky that he didn't break his spine and is doing fine. Motoro was transferred without incident.

However, a few hours later I have hives (red rash) all over my body. I think has to be something related to the fish. Thoughts?

I have had these fish for along time and hands in the tank for cleaning/feeding/etc. Has anyone else had this happen?

I had a reaction on my forearm once, it went away in a day or so...

keep a close eye on it. Some people have a variety of sensitivities to the different substances in water, and 99/100 it is nothing... but there are also a lot of nasties lurking in the water. Look in to mycobacterium marinum, it will blow you away what some people have dealt with simply by coming in contact with aquarium water.

My hands are in the tank almost every day, replanting or tweaking the aquascape, so I use gloves. If you have sensitivities, it might be wise to invest in them. Most aquarium retailers stock them and they run $5-$15 a pair. A lot of people that keep dangerous (read: poisonous) fish wear them, so do the paranoid hypochondriacs like myself.

i have never personally had reactions to tank water and im in it all the time... i just wash my hand after everytime...anyway thats not the point. i have a couple friends that are allergic to hard water or other stuff... a lot of people miss out on this because usually hands and arms are in water and that is pretty tough skin (as well as feet) so just make sure to keep it clean and it SHOULD MOST LIKELY go away soon...

I don't get any reaction from my water - and believe mine is not as crystal clear as it can be lol

My mom said that used to happen to her back when she was at college and working at a pet store part time. Just one day out of nowhere suddenly she started reacting to aquarium water from then on.
