I should be going back over there soon, so I'll try to get more pics then. We were so busy that I kept forgetting to take pics.
Were the fish lying about on the gravel etc. all dead?
You said he lost fish from an influx of bad water.....what happened?

Man.... I simply love the patern on the Annectens, its body also looks nice and firm..any idea how big it is?
We had an unexpected cold snap here, so my friend was trickling in hot well water to warm up the ponds. The plumbers that were working on his upstairs bathroom must have had to use the hose. When they were done, they didn't put it back down to trickle. They just put it back in the pond full blast. When my friend got home hours later, you can imagine his reaction. He lost 3 huge butterkofferi breeders out of the big fiberglass tub and the fish that you see dead on the ground and another oscar that was half of a proven pair. The big dark colored fish is a male blackbelt.
The lungfish I estimate at 18-22" or so. He is almost as big around as a baseball bat! He eats pellets too. Such a cool fish. In the 6 weeks since the last time I visited my friend, he doubled in size.
