no kidding. this is round 4 for me...:irked:
Not to mention they are sooo high maintenance once it gets established! You need to keep it trimmed low to the ground. If you let it get too thick, the bottom parts of the plant die off, and the top floats away. I got sick of this, so I yanked it all out.

For my next tank I want to try glosso. Never grown this plant before, but it looks like it roots a lot better than HC

i've been trying to grow it emmersed for a few weeks now and i have not seen any growth... i was thinking of switching over to glosso too... my buddy has some in his tank and it'll grow over everything if not controlled.

HC seems to be only for the more experienced planted aquarist. I dont dare trying it anytime soon. Glosso would be a much better choice if you are just looking for a nice carpet. I use marsilea in my tank and it does great. Medium to high light and DIY CO2.

I wouldn't say it's for experienced aquarists. I grew a full carpet in my 55g and that was my first planted tank ever. But it is definitely meant to be for those fully dedicated to the constant care and pruning it requires. If you provide the right amount of light, co2, and ferts (which is easy to do), the plant will grow like wildfire. Keeping up with the maintenance is the hard part. I just didn't have the patience to sit there and trim a massive carpet of HC...

agreed. i have a planted tank at my gf's house. her hc is growing very well. co2 and light are on a timer and it only gets ferts when i'm there (a few days a week) she doesn't do anything to the tank. its basically my tank at her house... i'm starting to think i got a bad bag of aquasoil, if that is even possible...

Actually, it is possible! I was just reading that recently some bad bags of aquasoil have been released and shipped out. The topic was on The Planted Tank Forum. Here is the link...
