I too think the EC system is garbage. What's the rationale for it? If only a handful of states/counties are deciding elections, that's proof that the system is broken. If the EC was scrapped, I'm confident we'd see much higher voter turnout each election. I'm in CA which has been a blue state since forever. A lot of people I know personally don't bother voting because in this state, your vote seriously does not count. The EC takes away the incentive to vote for most people. Yes, the one who wins the EC usually also wins the popular vote but if we can get more people to the polls, that's a good thing.
