I hope mark (discus origins) posts on this thread because he had a very interesting take on the ipatanga kelberi subject

Who do you think he gets most of his info on bass from? Did mark post a on a thread or something? I would love to see his input as well.

But, yes. I personally want more input as this is a learning experience for me and many new comers into bass.

I don't think they are itapingas. The "xingus" are not the xingus like kendragons. They are sp. "xingus". I think they are the same as discus original brought in and they look orino to me. As for the tem. I haven't heard or seen a breeding pair of tems. Jojo also claimed to have had wc bahias at one point.

But, I'm not here to tarnish his rep or any thing of thAt nature. If you feel like you got a great deal, then hey, more power to you bro.

Mark from discus orgins never claimed his sp. xingu were in fact xingu. He just tells us the collection point. THey were collected from the xingu river. IMO those fish are pinima. NOt a loss at all. Pinima are a lot more rare than xingu these days.

Lumpyfish your kelberi look great! Are those from rapps? They definitly dont look like bahias.

Lumpyfish's Kelbs look just like my ipatinga, the body shape and darker color are dead on, not saying that a wc kel from any collection point wouldn't look the same. I also seen the thread where Jojo claimed to have wc kelberi bahia, and I think he changed it a few days later to just kelberi bahia. 9 times out of 10 that collection point stuff doesn't matter as long as its wild caught. I don't really care what collection point mine come from as long as they are wild, which is why I buy my fish from rapps because his credibility speaks for itself. If I put a rio araguaia kel, in with a rio dolce kel how many people can tell the difference?

Actually isde...the rio arguaria are one of the kelberi that are a little easier to distinguish the way their last bar kinda spangles up and trails in towards the eye spot. BUt I hear ya on collection point. For the most part it doesnt matter. That is why Rapps is the man when it comes to wc kelberi. Personally....i would like to see more f1 rio arguaria. There are tons of f1 bahias available these days and the price reflects that. NOw we just need more f1s from diff collection points. Because they are all different from collection point to collection point.

Isde where did your ipitanga come from? Rapps right?

Interesting thread being I am also a new to keeping pbass, I also trust jeff rapps I have been very happy with all of my purchases from him, more than half the fish I own has come from him. I also have purchased from fish heaven (kelberi bahia not advertised as wc), osa (azuls was told wc), and one purchase from jojo (orino was told wc also). I am in no way a baller pbass keeper but I do not want to pay baller prices for a lower grade fish it isnt fair and having some sort of knowledge is better than buying blindly, as it seems to be when you are starting out (new to species). Haynchinook has been pointing this out lately and I know it sucks to find out but we need to know what we are paying for. So keep it coming I also think there should be a sticky of some sort for buying pbass online with info about wc, sp, etc (calling out haynchinook for this :))
