W/c rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know if this is typical, but the prazi has a really cool effect on my airstone.. crazy bubbles, as if it was saltwater. I wish it looked like that all the time lol

That's a property the drug has in water. I use the pure powder and it's much less noticeable but still present. An additive in the prazipro brand exaggerates this and really makes the bubbles split up into tiny micro bubbles. Definitely looks like a saltwater tank. Cool

Be careful because it can make filters clog as they tend to catch more debris. I've noticed this with socks and pads during treatment

Nice rays good luck!

So I'm still looking for input on how long to let the first treatment run until my water change and then second dose. Also I'm curious as to if I would see any worms/parasites or things of that nature if the rays had them?

There are probably a dozen different treatment "protocols" for praziquantel you can find online. Canamonster has a good one. I just dose 1 gram for every 100 gallons. Water change and redose on day 7. Total of 14 days.

You won't see the worms most likely unless a tapeworm. Usually white stringy poo, body will be skinny with cartilage "bones" showing, lethargy, lack of appetite.

New imports very common to have parasites internal and external.

My motoros have white poo I have had them since October and November but have not got much growth could they have parasites and that keeping them from growing

If the tank is adequate sized, water quality in check, and the diet is sufficient, yes that definitely could be the cause of lack of growth. What size were they when you got them? How big are they now? Wild caught?

I was trying to post earlier and having alot of issues. Not sure why. I did my 80% w.c on Sunday and added the carbon to remove the meds.. I came home Monday night to my female breathing heavily.. white coloration around the disc..looked like ammonia burn so I immediately set up for water change as I tested the water.. my arowana and male ray were acting perfectly normal. Male ray was swimming perfectly fine and at the front of the tank begging for food (per usual). My ammonia tested 1 ppm!...I cannot explain why, other than the prazi I added..absolutely nothing changed other than that. I did a 50% change and added prime...the female started acting alot better as I refilled the tank...I watched her for a few hours and she was right back to heavy breathing and lethargic behavior so I did another w.c...this time about 80-90%. By the time the tank was filled and running again it was about 3am... she looked ok but not good. So I went to bed. I woke up for work around 530 am and she seemed good but not great. I skipped my morning feeding and headed to work. By the time I got home around 5 pm she was perfectly fine and begging for food at the front glass.... water is testing great now At 0-0-20/40...I've always been a no additive kind of guy for this exact reason. I'm at the point where I'm probably not going to do the second dose. Wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this while using prazi...I'm no expert, but I can narrow down the variables pretty easily.
P.s. I'm on a private well.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm pleased things are stable at least for the moment. Let's try to dig a little deeper as I want things to be alright.

Did the treatment regimen change your water change schedule? I have never experienced or heard of praziquantel negatively impacting bio before. Not to say it can't happen. I have had sumps and filters overflow from the bubbles causing big issues.

Anyone else had a crash from prazi?

Could your overall system just be in need of more biological filtration? Have your rays grown in size or number since you first setup filtration. Have you noticed increasing food consumption and waste production? They might have grown to biological capacity. What's the media like?

I caution quitting the prazi and thinking that will be the end of it. Keep an eye on monitoring things. I strongly suspect there could be another factor here.

They were 6" when I got them and now are only 7 + 9 the 9" I got 1st and seemed to get some growth from him early on.
Should I medicate and if so should I use Prazi pro that foster smith sells
