Dieselhybrid Dieselhybrid why do you say the submerged bio balls are not doing anything? Can I run airlines underneath submerged bile boss to help with anything? How are the submerged bio balls different than K-1?

They aren't useless, I feel the space they occupy could be used for something with a greater surface area that would have better results. If it were full of a more porous media with large surface area like the biosticks (which sounds great krabbo008 krabbo008 ) It would provide more area for BB to colonize than the plastic bio balls which have a smoother surface.

Check out Didysis bioreactors thread. It's a sticky at the top of the stingray forum. The MFK commununity has a good discussion about them and how to build them, why they are ideal for stingrays:

This video explains the origin of the company and how the product was designed. It's constantly moving and banging into other pieces which slough off the dead and weak bacteria and only the strongest survive making it ultra efficient at processing ammonia and nitrite. The entire design and shape and density of the product was intentional.

Being used to keeping tanks packed with Rays. Many use K1 moving beds, and matrix/pumice/clay for biological filtration. Media similar to the Biosticks mentioned. I personally don't use much else plastic for bio I just don't find it keeps up with the waste as well. If I was keeping other species, I wouldn't filter so heavily, but these rays get enormous and eats pounds of raw food daily. Plus they don't deal with any ammonia or nitrite spike well, Other kinds of fish can care less about water quality, rays just stress out quickly IME. I just weighed a female at 8.5lbs and she was only 15" . My buddy put a 24" at 30lbs. That's a lot of waste, these fish get big.

Krabbo008 I hope everything goes back to normal soon!

I definitely think the biosticks alone are more than sufficient. I have 2 large air wands under all the bio media driven by a 600 gph air pump to help with oxygenation. The sump is powered by a jecod dct 12000 lph running at 90%.. so around 2000gph? after head loss. The water goes thru 2 300 micron filter socks and then thru a 100 micron filter I made before it gets to the bio chamber. There is also a large pouret foam piece it goes thru before the return chamber. It's maybe twice the size of an aquaclear 110 foam block, so that's probably adding to bio as well.
Here is a crappy pic of my sump setup,.my camera on my phone is cracked so it takes pretty lousy pics

The important reason to do at least 2 weeks of praziquantel is because the egg or cyst form of some parasites aren't killed by the medicine. So you need to prolong treatment to hit all stages of growth. I've seen veterinarians recommend 1 month total treatment with 1 waterchange and a treatment for each week.

Two is usually sufficient.

I got some prazy pro it says to remove foam I have poret foam in my sump and hate to lose all the BB what should I do

That's usually a precaution as the med changes some of the water properties. You'll notice fine microbubbles everywhere and foam. You'll also notice that your filters will clog SUPER fast. So if you have a sponge or a felt it could quickly clog and cause a leak as water would no longer flow through it just around it. Carbon/Zeolite/purigen will risk removing the med, so definitely remove those. I personally do not remove foam. If you have a closed system should be okay, if you have an open system I've had clogged pads cause leaks and overflows in open sump designs before. Keep an eye on it if you don't remove the sponges and pads

so I you think I should remove my pads move the sponges so they are in the sump but not restricting the water flow as they are now and leave the foam as it is
I do have A open system
