I work for Budweiser, and everyday when i go to walmart i have to walk past the fish. I'm sorry, but keeping 20 Oscars in a 10 gallon tank w. minimum filtration is ridiculous. Also, the goldfish... the goldfish at walmart made the lives of feeders look like the life of Hugh Hefner, there are more dead goldfish than living!! worst of all is the Betta's. I cant explain the conditions these fish are kept in, for my own curiosity i put a small piece of paper on the lid of one of the "cups" that held a Betta to see how often they are fed, that was a week go...still there...

Why cant something be done about this, I see organizations like PETA and Environmental groups everywhere (((being a 4x4 guy my feelings for them aren't all that great)), why cant these groups not allow wal mart to sell fish? WM has no experience in them, they don't care about them, it seems pointless to me..

Has anyone tried to do anything to stop walmart from selling fish?

All the walmarts in az stopped selling fish

I hear many walmart stores are declining it fish sales. That and tearing down thier tanks. Because I've never been into a walmart, can someone please post a pic of what thier fish section looks like?

any store thats not a pet store that is selling fish is bad news. Not saying pet stores are great either but theres a store around here called meijer which is just like a knock off walmart. They have the same setup.

I did buy 2 feeders for my little brotherfrom walmart and they didn't even make it a day in a 5g filled with good water from my 30g tank.

I got 13 guppies from my LFS and put them in the same setup. I have had them for like 2 weeks now and only lost 3 of them.

do you happen to know if there was a reason?

no visible sickness. I always just assumed atleast 10-25% of feeders are terminal. Every time I've kept them I lose a couple the first few days and after that the rest live until they get eaten.

You put 13 guppies in a 5G? And you also gave goldfish water from a 30G containing a 13" RD? :screwy:

yes. Whats wrong with that? Its better than tap water.

The tanks that walmart uses/used are made by marineland, and are call MARS units. They are actually 33 gallon tanks, split in half generally. The filtration on these systems are far above and beyond what many local fish stores will use. These units feature huge bio-wheels, uv sterilizers, several stages of mech filtration, huge heater, and an Iwaki pump. These systems are not the cause for the quality of fish at stores like petco, and walmart.
