Wal-Mart Protest........... *PLEASE HELP*

i dont think its gonna get you anywhere. youre dealing with a corporate giant. they have more to worry about than a few upset fish keepers, even though i agree with you.

i think theyll only stop carrying fish when it stops being profitable, meaning people boycott their fish and stop buying them. but, if people buy them, they will sell them. the problem is with the consumer, not the store. you would need some sort of mass protest

bluestarflowerfish, I agree with you and Fallen / benzjamin13. It is appalling to see this sort of thing unnecessarily going on in this day and age. jcardona1 has it pegged... profitability is the key factor. Walmart is remodeling some stores and removing the tanks where they are no longer profitable.

What did PETA say when you contacted them about this? Do they have any suggestions?

I think pushing for better training and a better stock list (no Pacu etc) will get you farther as you can show profitability with it, rather than trying to cut their profits by denying them the right to sell fish.

They already have a good tank system.

Do a search on here for the other threads like this to see if they can give you some ideas too!

Other posters...please keep this thread clean.

There must be somebody you can report them to. Some desperate news anchor might be pursuaded to do a story. That always gets a large companies attention.

The Wal-mart in my area is very nice. They even have a show tank with not-for-sale fish. The fish look healthy... almost to the point I am tempted to buy one.

But in general Petco, Petsmart, Walmart are all at the mercy of the managers of that department. Talk to the manager (nicely), and I bet the quality will change. Only sickos can torture animals and not care. If you get ignored or blown off, then go up the chain... Wal-mart may not care how products are stacked or fish water is dirty, but they do care about customers (customers = $$$). Don't make it about the fish, make is about the money and customer treatment. The fish will benefit faster this way.

Pookie lets burn this mother down.......no but seriously good luck getting fish removed from walmart within 15 min of my house their are 5 walmarts fish have only been removed from one of them and it was right after it opened so if your walamrt has been open for a while good luck they wouldnt have kept the fish in the store if little kids didnt want to buy 7 of them for their 5 gal fish bowl

crying about walmart wont help any you need to find all the customers and have a chat with them (joke)

I guess some stores are fortunate to have somebody that cares, but the majority don't. Every store I go to whether it be here in my hometown or on vacation to other states, if I happen to be in a Wal-Mart store I always check on the fish and I have yet to find a store that passes my approval.

I could say the same for petco.. 75% of my local petco's fish are sick and not for sale. Same for probably a few of the mom and pop shops as well.. I think it kinda just goes with the territory. You will have bad stores and you will have good.

I think as Dr. Joe said you'd be better trying to get them to take better care of their fishie friends then trying to get them to pull fish out of the store completely.

I agree that wal-mart should not sell fish . but where im from , and being dirt poor I have no place else to do my shopping for toiletries and what not so boycotting would not work but i will be happy to sign an internet pettition . Im sure that on this site alone you could get enough signatures to at least get them to look at there "fish rooms" Good Luck!!

I don't shop at walmart for any fish. Just stop shopping there, and hopefully everybody will stop and eventually they won't be making money on their fish and stop selling them!

Walmart is the scum of the earth! They don't even take care of there employees. Two years ago California tax payers paid 23 million dollars because Walmart don't provide health care for there employees. I'm sure they cost every tax payer in the nation millions of dollars every year. I won't ever shop there, I dont care if a save a few $ its not worth it.

:screwy:all employees know what the place gives them for options and pay and insurance or lack their of so why do you hate walmart hate the dumb @$$ people who work their for low wages and no helth care its their choice you not shoping at walmart wont get them helth care they employee needs to stand up for it or find a job that offers it:screwy:
