Wal-Mart Special??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That walmart sounds pretty bad, My walmart I work for is alot better with their fish tho, there is still problems like no hiding places for the fish and some tanks do have quite a bit of algae, the fish are still pretty healthy tho and if I can I try to buy em from there to at least save em from the stupid people and the tanks there. Tho I wont go out of my way for em If I don't want/like the fish I wont get it

Why not write a letter and give it to the manager complaining about inhumane treatment of animals and cc WalMart Headquarters, the local humane society or spca? I think it would be better than you feeling forced to buy the fish and they just order more.

They should get out of the fish business. Not to change the subject but i was in Pet Smart yesterday to buy Prime and they had all of these Oscars in several different tanks and every one of them had ripped fins, bolching eyes, and just looked really bad and it was actually very sad. I went up to the salesperson and told them they should be ashamed of themselves for letting those fish get that bad. I wanted to buy all of them just because I was so angry but have no tank space for any of them. They were starting to look deformed.

I agree^^ I cant stand even walking by the fish section at any chain of pet store! every time i go in there the fish have ick like really bad, most are dying. theres even one that i used to work at that just did some remodeling and decided to save money on utilities instead of keeping their tanks up to temp. they were losing fish left and right. one of the workers i was talking to said she was loosing her mind cause she keeps telling them about the issues and they tell her it is what it is and do your best to keep them alive:irked: Ive stopped buying from them hoping they will eventually get the picture and stop selling fish that are practically dead already. If i was to buy the fish cause i feel bad the store will see this as just sales and order more:irked: But i do support the local privatley owned guys:grinno:

big chains get a write off so it dont matter if it alive or noti wont buy any from any chain storethe only good thing you get out of them is deals on tanks from time to time and on suples from time to time but besides that i go out of my way to shop and just fish stores no matter what always helpful if need or 9 out of 10 time order me any fish i want

There needs to be a sticky where ppl can complain about walmart/petsmart/petco

too many of these threads.

They all sell crappy fish, so why even bother?

I've pointed out almost dead fish to managers before and a few have given them to me and written them off. It doesn't happen much now, the Walmarts here went to a nicer filtration system a few years back and aside form some algae growth sometimes I hardly ever see really sick fish or bad tanks here. The manager did say they will be phasing out fish tanks at all Walmarts in the future, this was about 6 months ago. They also are restricted to ordering only certain fish now, about 10 years ago I could request fish and a couple 'fish managers' would actually hand pick fish at a local wholesaler too. I know there are bad one's out there though, it's sad. We are losing more and more LFS though too.

Well i went to the Wal-Mart again and the fish was dead, still in the tank... i didn't find a need to take pictures... but i did decide to go to the lfs and pick up a freddie though, he's about 3 inches. and I 100% agree that Wal-Mart should get out the fish business totally, even though i believe zari and lusus_naturae when they say their walmarts are better but thats still 2 out what.. like 5,000 in the U.S.? And this thread could definitely be a possible sticky to complain about Wal-mart/petsmart/petco/ect. haha!
