Hi MFK, I would like some help catching walleyes. I am not new to fishing, but I am new to walleyes. I can stock up on walleye items tommorow, but need to know what to get. What lures/ rigs should I use? Any tips will be very helpfull. Thanks.:)

personally i use grubs and lures..some grub companies you can trust are yum, berkley, and zoom..but lures i just use rapala x-rap clown especially trolling lakes..

Thanks For the info. Do use a certain rig with the grub?
well i make sure i have more than the average knot..(not the normal loop knot)..but it is also a good thing to maybe have a steel leader cause i got some surprise pike on before when i was walleye fishing..so it might wanna be advised on that with certain baits you use..

Never use a leader for walleye fishing. You have to live with the occasional breakoff, as walleye are far to sensitive and will freak out and be gone the moment they feel the leader. Use a strong, light line like berkley fireline, no higher than 8-10lb test. Jigs, swimbaits, and live bait are you best options, specifically soft swimbaits.

Find a good spot. Talk to local fishermen if you have too. If you just go to a lake/river and start casting, you won't get any. You need to know the hot spots for them.

And the biggest thing you need is patience. This isn't bass fishing. You may not get anything at all on the first few days that you try. They also have probably the smallest hook set window of any fish that I have ever caught. If you aren't paying attention, you will miss them.

Good Luck.

Walleye is closely related to zander.
Best tactics for fishing zander is dropshot or jigging with shads.
you could also try a live minnow on a floater rig nearby a bridge or other water obstacle.

Thanks for the replys. I have a couple small soft swimbaits that I can try. For walleye, is it better to catch wild minnows or buy them? If so what species is best to use? This lake has gizzard shad, sunfish, perch, crappie, ect.

Up here I buy/trap fathead, dace minnows or chubs. In the spring I do alot of jig fishing with some floating jigheads or slip-corks. If and when we do get summer I like a nightcrawler or leach.

completely disagree on your tactics, i fish with a leader before and got plenty of walleye and you CAN use a higher line than 8-10lb test so sorry it might be different where you live but definitely here you can use leaders..
