wallmart confusses me on this species

i had a "dragon fish" once, found out there were actually a violet goby. then i found out there supposed to be brackish water.

lol.. i didn't know walmart sold those. i used to see them at petsmart and yes, they are Polypterus senegalus or the "common" bichir. and they were called 'dinosaur eels' but then they changed the name a couple times since. they get anywhere from 10-13." Mine got to about 12" and has stayed there and has been a great and healthy fish now for almost 4 years - very active and all over the tank. eats meal worms and frozen meaty stuff.

ive known them to eat convicts i wouldnt do them in anything less than a 55

Some people might think this suggestion is heretical, but I have a senegal in a 29g, and he's been fine since I got him, maybe 2 years ago. However, it was not planned...but he is still happy. But yeah, I'd go bigger than 29.

same i keep mine in a 25 and all he does is sit or swim around the tank for food. hes fine.

you could survive in fridge box....but would you want to? Double the volume would be a nice thing to do for your fish IMO

It boils down to:

Is this the fish?

If so, this is a dragon goby.

Or, is this the fish?

If so, this is a sen bichir.

Just type in "name of fish profile" on google and you will get everything you need.
