I can assure you that any actions the staff take regarding the sales of restricted species are intended to protect the interests of the forum and members as a whole, not to "talk ****."

^^^^This

He has a point. Sure the F&G officials are doing their job, but the members here who start being condescending and acting like they'll tell the authorities etc are just being dicks. What's their motive?

I never really see the bashing, usually it's drooling.

I'm sure if there is bashing it boils down to jealousy.

Now that is just low. More like scum in fact. That would be a real hater. Just jealous that someone has a fish they don't or just using the poor fish (that will be put to death by the way) just to give the owner some trouble with the law. I would never turn someone I hate in by using his fish for a reason. Leave the poor fish alone!!!

IMO if you post something you're not supposed to have, you'll just have to deal with the consequences.

But I love looking at pics. Usually pics of the "forbidden ones" add a bit of variety to the mix.

Hypothetically speaking...if someone were to post pics of lets say a snakehead/asian aro and their location said "USA" or something similar and a F&G agent was monitoring it would they have the authority to make the Admin of here or whatever website give up the IP address of the person?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

As a practical matter, all you need is an e-mail address to register an account, so it's not like there's much information to provide.

BTW, F&G is a reference to the CA Dept. of Fish & Game, so they wouldn't regulate asian arowanas, but snakeheads would be an area of concern for them, as they're regulated in CA. The USFWS would be the federal entity charged with enforcing the Endangered Species Act (e.g., Asian arows) and the Lacey Act (e.g., snakeheads, FRTs).

I know I just like referring to them all as fish and game because the abbrv is ***.

And to the question. Yes. they can supeona the site for its records and obtain the IP address of the poster thru the sites logs (its all logged) From that they can determine what IP someone goes thru. then they can supeona the provider for the information of the IP that was being used at that particular time and find out who the user of that IP addy was. At that point they have your ass. And then can obtain a warrent to kick your door down.
So as you can see its not hard to obtain your info even if you register here under a fake name and email account.

I doubt most people that are dumb enough to make a for sale add for illegal fish are smart enough to ask their IP.
