I've heard all these stories of the big cats and gars being pulled out of the Ohio river. I have a ton of different setups and I was wondering what you guys thought was the most ideal setup and bait to catch some big fish!? live bait? stink bait? wheres the best locations to fish? thanks in advance!

If you want cats just get a big hook and a big sinker/weight. You can use hotdogs, live bait, whatever. Just let her sit especially as night approaches and if your lucky youll reel in a monster.

chicken liver is not the best catfish bait, though probably the most popular. Shell on shrimp or hot dogs work well. Chicken liver comes off too easily and the only reason catfish are attracted to it is because they have been trained that it is food. Turtles love chicken liver too ... But staying out and waiting is always the best method.

you want to catch the big cats and avoid the other stuff, don't use shrimp or livers or stink bait. Take a bluegill, for good sized cats i'd recommend about 3.5-4" as about the perfect size, take your knife, scale them on both sides, take the tip of your knife stick it in their crapper and cut open to their bottom fins, be careful not to cut any internal organs. the baitfish can live like this and struggle to move around for quite some time, i've had a couple live 30 minutes to an hour+. If there are big cats in the area, this bait will drive them crazy

:iagree: The best bait to use for big cats are natural prey, that is why live or dead fish will have probably the best chance to land a big one.

Get urself a nice stiff rod. My Cat pole is only 4 foot long and is rate to 450 pounds. Its thick as hell. Get and nice sized open spool reel. Not a casting reel. And sone 100 pound test line. The get urself a 5 ounce lead and an Octopus hook as big around as a basket ball. You dont need a bobber because youll know when it takes the line.

Now for the bait

Whole chicken thighs with bone ( for somethin to wrap the hook around) Put it in a plastic baggie and let it sit in the sun for 2 days. Then go out around 11pm and start fishin.

Just make sure u got some buddies with you to hold ya so u dont get pulled in haha
