Wanna catch BIG CATS in the river!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also for bait ive found 9-10 inch whole bluegills work great. The 3 inchers mentioned above catch small ones most of the time. If u want the real monsters u got to go bigger.

I have some big rods. I deep sea fish a lot and have line on em big enough to pull up whatever tree I get hooked on haha
But 9-10 inch bluegills? sheesh thats food for me right there!! haha

Ud be suprised what u can catch. The biggest catfish i ever caught was about 3 1/2 feet long and that was on a around 9 inch crappie. Ive caught Vipers (striped bass) on 5 inch bluegill.

What about gar? When I go boating we always see gar come up to the surface with heads much bigger than mine!

For gar use yarn. It acts as a hook. Sounds funny but it works. I also get them on bass minnows under a bobber but you really have to let them take the hook. Therefore you lose your hooks. As for the big cats down on the river, go out with a cast net and catch the 5-6 inch shad. You are probably looking for flatheads. Bait that is not alive does not do so well for flatties.

The yarn thing doesn't work all that great for gar....esp anything large. Sure they get tangled in it, but try fighting them in like that. For smaller gar, they will bite almost anything and you CAN hook them in the mouth.. It's just a gamble on whether they have the part of the bait with the hook in it in their mouth at the time when you set the hook....Otherwise, you can let them swallow it. I caught one a couple weeks ago on a tiny jig.

If you're fishing for big gar, just make sure your hook is heavy enough to hold it's shape. I use a wire leader when fishing for larger toothy fish, but the small gar I caught was on 6lb test line with no leader. I was bream fishing for bait.

Okay guys so we have the bluegill (sunbellys) in the bucket ready to go fishing! Any suggestions on how to run the hooks? Can I run two on one line or no? Sinkers?

i like to make a heavy single hook bottom rig and run the hook through their back behind their dorsal fin
