Wanna keep a Whale Shark?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the Georgia Aquarium has a bigger tank, biggest in the world i think. they also have FOUR whale sharks(i think?), but they aren't fully grown.

I just have one question

how in the H E DOUBLEHOCKEYSTICKS do you even transport a whale shark to the aquarium???

basicly with a hammock... obviously not the kind you hang between 2 trees.. but same general idea...

amazing looking tank.. wish it were a bit bigger for the whale shrkes sake though.. but well.. better than a betta bowl..

I think although it is nice to see fish like that up close I would rather see them on tv in the ocean where they belong. Like ericifish said they swim around the globe and so do a lot of other fish in captivity. Some fish really need to stay where they belong.

i think ill get an orca. anyone know where i can by feeder seals?

I take that back

I have TWO questions haha

how in the heck does one go about FEEDING whale sharks? and howd ya like to see the total feed bill for that aquarium haha

oh crap wonder if thats a breeding pair....now THAT would be an accomplishment lol

This photo is in reality a pre-architectural artists conception of my next tank... But instead of the whale sharks we are planning on having great white sharks.

I saw a show about the Georgia Aquarium, there were two sharks in Korea (they would have ended up being EATEN so Georgia aquarium decided to take them) They corral them in a giant net, then with a big hammock, scoop them up and place then in a box with water (duh) the water parameters are monitored 24/7, they are taken to Air transport ASAP, waiting for them at the airport are 2 flatbed trucks, an army of marine biologists and a huge police escort. they quickly slide the crates onto the trucks. then it's off to the aquarium. once they get there, they do a giant process much like a drip acclimation, but WAY more exact, as in everything is perfect. then they hoist him up on the hammock and slowly lower them into the tank. marine biologists release it and follow it around making sure it doesn't bump into anything and to make sure it's healthy.

Feeding them, they have a chef who prepares mixtures of fish and various shrimps, i think Siliversides and kirll, but i can't remember. the sharks know there feeding times and they come right up to the feeder who has a bucket on a stick and dumps them out right infront of their mouths.

They have a giant scafold that they stand on atop the aquarium.

Pretty cool show.
