Gun control is not the problem. The law makers are the problem. There are to many laws that protect criminals and not enough to protect the law abiding citizens. Florida has a 10-20-LIFE law. If you brandish a weapon in a crime it is a mandatory 10 years in prison, if you fire that gun in a crime it is a 20 year mandatory sentence and if you kill someome during the crime it is mandatory life in prison.
Florida just recently passed a law that now allows law abiding citizens to protect themselves. Of course you still have to have a permit to carry the gun. Prior to the new law, if someone threatened your life or your families life with a weapon you could not shoot them unless there was no other choice. Meaning if you could get away you had to do that. Now the law states that if your life is threatened with a weapon, you no longer have to run you can pull your gun out and shoot them dead in the streets. Of course you better make sure your life was in danger and you have the correct paper work to carry that gun.
