Want to breed My EBJD with a Jack Dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I currently have them in different tanks, the JD is around 2 in or 3in larger right now so Im waiting for the ebjd to grow a little before putting them together. And im not sure what it means to "vent sex the eb" im still kinda new to fish (3rd year keeping them)

There both male... female has more blue on the gill plate And don't get as big as the male

Hey Jacob your fish does appear to be an ebjd and they are difficult to sex. Your jd is a male though for sure. Put them together and see how they interact but be ready to remove them if too aggressive. Google cichlid venting for an idea on what to look for if you don't want to test your blue with your jd.

Those are both male regular Jack Dempsey's.

Here is a regular male

Regular male and female Jack Dempsey's are easy to sex due to females having blue on the gill plates and typically very little coloring down the sides of the body. Where as males have color on the entire body. Sexing EBJD are nearly impossible without venting as they really don't have any identifying marks. My understanding with EBJD is that females are not as common as males. Hope this helps.
