EBJD are not are Hybrid....

wow when mine was a year old and some many months he was 5"...
It's quite possible they are hybrid. They should absolutely be treated as hybrids as far as breeding and dealing with fry.

Hmm I usually shake my head at misinformed people. The dna test performed on ebjd only tested the genetic make up of the mother fish and ebjd males are generally outcrossed with female jd so the dna test proves nothing. Read up on the subject before you type a bunch of non sense. Ebjd don't exist in the wild for various reasons. It hasn't been 100% proven either way I'm just saying they should be treated as hybrids which isn't a big deal. I like hybrids. I'm done and sorry to the op for this. Good luck with your breeding!
Different fish have different growth rates. For instance, my EBJD has maintained the same growth rate as my regular male. A lot of things can factor into growth rate from maintenance and diet to tank size.
They've been tested and proven to be color morphs, like the gold Jack Dempsey's. They're not hybrids, they don't exist in the wild due to their less aggressive nature and extremely slow growth rate as fry compared to their regular siblings.
To Jacob, I am curious if your EBJD had ever been sick at some point that caused it's eyes to sink in or was it always like that? If it was due to illness that's one thing, but if it's always been that way. That's a genetic defect and I wouldn't suggest breeding it.
]His eye's haven't always been like that, they sank in a few months ago. They use to actually stick out so I don't think its a genetic defect. [/COLOR] I think its just from poor feeding habits (thats on me), I use to feed him bloodworms and pellets, but he was getting bloodworms everyday and pellets only everyother day. I've been mixing up his diet lately
