Reality, people. Fish and Game doesn't have the resources (and hopefully not the desire) to launch elaborate investigations aimed at busting a handful of hobbyists that may or may not have committed a relatively minor violation. How many can even reliably ID a snakehead?

I like to think that the spirit of the law is intended to keep snakeheads out of commercial trade, not to persecute hobbyists. I just can't see F & G officers suiting up to go on a snakehead bust after an anonymous phone call from one of our forum cohorts turned tipster.

The short version is, I was raided because of pictures I had posted on another site's gallery. The fish were all legal where I lived before but, were not legal in my new state (didn't even think of checking 'til it was too late). Lost over $4k worth of fish and over $30K worth of crayfish (I own the RCCR hatchery). Plus, I was looking at $60K in fines. A good and well-paid lawyer found errors in the agent's procedures that caused the judge to rule in my favor so, no fines. Tally after the dust cleared: $42K loss. Plus, a years delay in rebuilding my business (hatchery). And the salt in the wound: my tropical gar was confiscated and found to be legal but, it died in holding.

HOLY S**T!
Thats harsh man!
So obviously you didnt get any re-imbursement for the gar.
That really sucks, thats like......WOAH! far out! sorry to hear!

Hey Oddball and miro_red.D stop fighting and help eachother out before the new people see you fighting and get the wrong idea about the site and not log on and spread bad news about how they fight on your threads. So knock your fighting off.

As I eluded to above, I was speaking to (and generalizing) the average hobbyist. Being involved commercially puts you in a different class, but I get your point. To each their own, I suppose.

they wont send in the task force but if tipped id say 1-3 ppl will prolly knock on your door and ask to see all of your fish. they are trying hard to rid them from the potomic river so id say they would be conserned over 1 or more snakeheads in hobbyists care..

The fish are not part of my business. I was busted due to the hobbyist pics I had on the internet. Ya' want to know the real kick in the butt? Less than 2 weeks after the raid, the species of crayfish I raise was taken off the restricted list.
