Wanting to breed a CA/SA Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive done convicts before and to be honest it was fun, but really I just want to breed a fish that I really enjoy keeping. Convicts are ok, but they lost their appeal to me some what quickly. Jacks maybe something I would be interested in as well. I really wish I could do a Mota pair, but I worry that would also be a bit to big for my tank. Would Jacks outgrow the 75g once they were larger and still breeding? Also if I plan to upgrade eventually is there any reason not to do Green Terrors in the 75g for a while? Honestly that is what I would really like to do the most.

just out of curiosity what do you plan to do with all these fry. all mine are fish food, this includes thousands of F1 jags and JD.

If your upgrading then yes they will be ok for a while.
My male grew to about 8 inches in a year.
Give the female lots of hiding places and get a divider just incase things get too rough.

breeding fun the first few times, and your LFS take some for store credit, but after that its crap, she laying again, every 3 weeks she laying again, no vacuuming the tank this week, less you suck em up,.. and bla bla bla.

Honestly some will be fish food, some I may grow up to say I have my own fish that I had from day one til it was full grown, and then some I will likely give to my lfs or get a little store credit for, they give low amounts of credit for almost anything. I am not planning on trying to actually make money doing this, although if I did of course that would be great. I just dont expect that at all

just saying breeding fun. love to watch them do it and prep they put into it. but it does get old.

This is true.My green terrors are always at it.It can become a bit of a pain.
I have a few catfish in there now and eggs tend to get eaten at night. This has made life in the tank easier.

I got a little F1 jag over a achiever in the 180, he was suppose to be eaten, 3 months in the tank about 3" now and he cruises with the Oscars, was 1/4" when i put him in with 30 or so others.
This a jag i can sell.

This the little guy, he just ate 3 months old.
