I run 10000k on my freshwater tanks. It's pretty much just in the middle. Not blue, and not yellow. 6500k is a bit yellow, and anything over 10000k is going to get a bit blue.

saltwater lighting just ends up being more expensive and has higher output. Typically, people run higher in the kelvin scale as well for corals. This higher output and higher kelvin spectrum is needed for coral growth.

There's no reason you can't run saltwater fixtures on freshwater, but why spend the extra money if it's not needed. I run a coralife sw fixture that I replaced the bulbs with 10000k on my fw tank, but that was just because I got the fixture super cheap used.
