Earlier today I was in my english class. Five minutes after class started my professor told the class that someone had turned in a homework that wasnt theirs. She said she was going to report it to the dean. This student is a basketball player too which makes the situation worst.

Reasons why I am telling you guys this?
-Their basketball scholarship is thrown away.
-They have a less chance getting into a good university.
-Its on their record(this is what my high school teacher told me)

Academic integrity is the big thing in schools now. If you get caught cheating you will suffer the consequences.

So dont cheat :D

plagiarism is worse since it stays on your transcript for LIFE

Yep it does.

When plagiarism was the "big" topic in my senior year of high school we had to use turnitin.com

It was such a pain :irked:

during my last year of university, we had to always submit a hard copy and an electronic copy that would be fed into turnitin. (this was way back in 1997).

don't cheat.

most top schools will expel you if you get caught more than once, and your academic career is ruined.

even after the first offense, the penalties are severe.

I've had papers I've written a last year in my advanced composition class that came up suspiciously plagiarized, but I had the proper sites and sources to credit my own work and the instructor understood the type of research I had to work with. The damn paper was 26 pages long (ALL CONTENT), not counting the 6 pages of sources and cover page. I seriously doubted my ability to write that much content. I would hate for someone to take my own work and receive credit for it. So it's a good thing that plagiarism does stick with them through out their academic career. Shame on plagiarizers.

some teachers use turnitin.com, but not really this year

You should let the cheates learn their lesson.
