plagiarism is worse since it stays on your transcript for LIFE
I hate this A LOT like so much it's stupid to a whole new level. I understand taking other people's work is wrong, but when you summarize it and it's still considered plagiarism and is still similar even though you cite the source is straight up bs. Also I'm sure if you know a little about the subject and it so happens a site out there had the same "common info" is bs. I'm saying this because I got caught for doing a hard as 12 page report on pascal's triangle single spaced, 12 front. I cited everything yet since I worded some of the stuff similarly it was plagiarism...... also bs because I know people who straight up copied WORD FOR WORD and didn't get in trouble.....:screwy:

problem is, students often do not understand exactly what plagarism is, and...neither do the teachers. unfortunately, you found out the hard way that sometimes the teachers don't.

Plagarism is presenting someone elses ideas as your own.

you can still copy and paste whole paragraphs from someone elses paper and it is NOT plagarism, IF you cite it properly and give credit to the author.

sometimes, students don't purposely plagarize, but do so anyway because they did not reference properly.

my pos history teacher gave me an f on my test because i had three words THREEE WORDS the same as the book, not the internet, the BOOK

the 3 words were "alliances and helping" out of the sentence "They did this by creating alliances and helping weak countries."

....I cited it EXACTLY how he told me to I spent over 6 hours just getting it all nice and neat =.=... i had a parent teacher conference which was hella bs cause coming from a asian family my mom was always on my teachers side.....sigh....

quite often high school teachers don't understand what plagarism actually is.

at the college/university level they all know what it is.

because if they don't they can be victims of plagarism themselves when people plagarize their own research and not even realize it LOL

when I was in first year physics some friends of mine got in trouble when they all worked on a problem set together..and all made the exact same (unusual) error on one of the questions.

they got a talking to from the Dean, and no doubt crapped their pants. because it was first year, they got away with simply a zero grade on the assignment.

at the upper year level, this would have been much much worse for them.

the moral of the story is always write up your own work independently, reference properly and you should have nothing to worry about (once you get past the high school teachers LOL)

This is the way I look at it, in high school your learning for a grade in college your learning for the benefit of your profession (im not in college yet)

I agree with you two.

Much of college is gen ed classes which have nothing to do with your major.

Football and Mens basketball provide basically all the money to the athletics program which allows sports like tennis, baseball, golf, track and field, etc. to continue to have teams. If this person is any good the administrators will fix the problem. Ive seen it happen multiple times.
