Common literaure tells you that thy get to 12"+. Personally, I think maximum of 10" is a more realistic estimate. As pointed above, they are wood eaters. Just place a new piece of driftwood in the tank and you will see them for hours picking pieces off of it. This behavior stops however when all soft wood is consumed, therefore you don't have to worry your aquarium decor vanishing without a trace. They also love lettuce, or any other kind of vegies. These fish howver are far from being hebivores. Mine go crazy for FD krill, hikari gold pellets, Tetramin Pro flakes and live black worms. In fact, there was a tim when I introuced a group of 10 or so baby pnda cories to the tank and actually witnessed normally mellow and laid back uarus turn into vicious hunters

They ate them all within just a few minutes. Any fish that is clearly not of a bite size is generally ignored.
I would advise against keeping uarus with severums. I've kept mine in a 125 for a while with a slightly larger female gold sev that I moived from another tank. That severum made uarus her *****es within days. They were even afraid to come out to eat. On the other hand geos of all kinds make excellent tanksmates, as do nanacars, various non-aggressive catfish (mine did exceptionally well with hoplo cats, raphaels, pl*cos and larger cories). You can also try larger tetras, like blackskirts, buenos aires, or congos. Dwarf cichlids should also be OK, as will be angels. As for discuss, I am not 100% sure that uarus will be calm enough, as they can sometimes get a little roudy -- this is definetely far from any true aggression, thyjust squable a bit sometimes. These squables dont last more than a couple of minutes and are usually quickly forgotton.
I'll post other uaru related things as they pop into my mind
