i don't think this is so bad, you people have sissy stomachs, it's just a fish, i mean, we all have eaten ton's of them, i don't think keeping it alive to eat it is any worse than killing and eating it, and as i'm told by a friend, who happen's to be a very smart guy, he tell's me, that fish lack, some sort of nervous system in ther brain, so they can't feel pain. so really this would be just nothing in terms of pain for the animal. and in asia and places such as that, the cusine is totally different, so this is totally acceptable., just my 2 cents, you don't have to agree.

i disagree that fish can't feel pain. Pain is response to your body that something bad is happening. If they didnt' feel pain they wouldn't swim away if they're being bitten.

Pain = A form of touch(Is that the right word?). Everyone here knows that fish can feel it if you touch them or... I can't think of any other examples but Feeling pain is like feeling anything. Is your friend is saying they can't feel anything?

i don't even think its a form a touch. I think its kinda ludicrous to think that fish don't feel pain. They need it to survive.

woah. it happens alot. things must suck for the fish. The stupid thing is that it would taste the same eatherway. they only do this for enjoyment. "cool im eating a fish while it is still alive!" Pointless:( :(

That is very sick, and not to be the smart ass but I did a report about fish for my speech class and fish lack a certian receptors in their brain so they are unable to feel pain. That's why when you hook a fish it doesn't spaz out. I still think the viedo is sick I could never eat something that is still alive! :screwy:

This has been my experience, with no scientific backing:

I hooked a carp in the mouth, minimal fight, landed easily.

I accidentally snagged a carp in the back, fish flipped out.

Not sure what it means, maybe they don't have pain receptors in the mouth, but I think they can fell pain.

the fish is dead - i am a fisherman before a fishkeeper, and have caught thousands, and cooked hundreds.....

when a fish goes into boiling oil - the flesh (including brain,etc..) is cooked almost immediately - and whatever might be left, is just final muscle contractions......

as for killing a fish - obviously many here aren't fisherman......

the most practiced method of catch to keep:

1) catch fish
2) either tear with hand, or slit with knife the gill plate, and flesh holding the gills to lower body
3) led the fish bleed out

90% of fisherman gut (by using scissor or knife) the fish while it is still alive - which is the only way to ensure quality meat

my .02.....

and for all you steak eaters - i am guessing you haven't seen a cow being slaughtered......

they do too spaze out, and hit the air tryin to throw the hook. the same nerves for pain are the ones used to sense objects (feeling stuff). if a fish couldnt feel pain it couldnt feel you touching it or know if it ran into the glass or not. (i think i had a irridecent shark that couldnt feel pain though:grinno:)

and fish can cry...believe it or not....its been tested...and if you want to do ur own test...get a catfish (channel cat prefered) dry it off good, let it sit for about 10 mins outta water (still alive) to let most of the moiture evaporate. then go about cleaning it.(chop its head off) and watch the eyes...they water and will start streaming with tears...after i tried that...i clean all of my fish in the sink or drink and make sure their plenty wet ;) that way i just forget and go about it.
