As some of you may know, I have lost 2 female hystrix pups in the last week or so. The male that I recieved with the first female was doing fine for oer a week and eating like a pig. Both females died within 48 hours of arrival to me.

As you will see in the pics, the male is seen heathlty and eating, the next pics are from 10 minutes ago and he has completely changed color and is getting what I believe is death curl.

It hurts me to see him die, the last female died just like him. breathing one minute, dead the next. All 3 are from aquascape, spoke with another board member who lost 2 of 4. I am sadden by this and discouraged from eve buying online. I have kept 2 retics that were purchased from a LFS with no problems. I though retics were the hardest to kep but they seem to be the happest in my tank.

I feel very horrible, I am in deep deep regret. just hope that I am wrong and he is just changing color and going through some stress or something. But the other 2 females died the same way so why should I expect anything less.

Why do you keep mentioning AquaScape? Just curious.

Can he be constipated? I have been watching him for an hour now, I have notice that there is a bulge in his butt. Kind of lloks like poop is stuck in his butt and he is trying to pass it. He is still breathing and does swim around a bit.

I only had the light on to take pictures. Sadly he past away about an hour ago. I had been waiting so long to get Hystrix rays, I thought about buying the rays that you got from Michael. Bella, maybe if your hystrix have pups, you can sell me one?

its always a gamble with wild rays, I think it was great of pedro to replace the one that you had lost in the first place, most online dealers wont do that. The ones that bella just got were from aquascape as well. I have a theory that wild rays might actually over eat themselves..... Because they are not use to getting a constant food source like captive rays are
