i do a 10 gal tues and thurs with a 15 to 20 gal on the weekends, so tops of 40 a week. Right now isnt neccessarily the problem. I am in apartment for now, next fall I will be moving back into a fraternity house, not alot of room and the way my room is I have no more then 6" of clearance between the top of the tank and the ceiling, so i cant pout water into the tank directly. Right now i just treat using wardley 6.5 in a 5 gal water jug works fine but i would like to start setting something up thats a little less messy, and i can work out the kinks now when i have the time, money and stores (isnt a whole lot available in houghton mi) available to me. So again i guess my question is. Just some charcoal some peet a couple air stones let it sit for 2 or 3 days and it should be fine? Maybe through in some chloromine conditioner as i fill the tank

Put the chloramine remover in when you fill the container.

If you could get circulation thru the charcoal/peat (Stack in a piece of 4" pvc and put the aerator on top of it to draw water thru like a sponge filter does) it would help.

If the tank is going up so high, get a pump with a descent 10ft head (check harbor freight) and a 'J' pipe used in reverse hooked to a hose to siphon water out...

Not trying to spend your money, just giving ideas...

Thanks, i think i am going to plump it into the the return line from my filter, it already has a check valve on. The tank isnt neccessarily up higher the whole room is kinda raised, we have a deck and everything is on top and sleep underneath. Not that it matters I have a 2000 gph sump pump with a 12ft head. my air pump died the other day so i need a new one to begin with so ill just get 2 or a larger one and just set it up then. Would it be better to put the air below the charcoal and pete kina like in an air lift filter.

The carbon will try to take gasses out of the air and render it less effective to the water.

Put the carbon on the bottom and peat on the top.

Or... if you have an old HOB (really old) that you can stack material in.
