water change for 10X3X2.5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
At the end of the day yes you still need to clean the glass and clean pumps but they are things that take no time like cleaning the glass
Yes cleaning pumps takes a bit of time but I only do mine every 6 months

The less time I spend doing water changes and tank maintenance the more time I have to enjoy my fish
That doesn't mean I neglect the important things

It's a insult you say my tank is in terrible state

I know for a fact my tank is kept better than yours without even seeing test results

I wasn't insulting anyone and I was stating facts from what I have seen. I wasn't meaning everyone and I didn't say anything about water quality. But I disagree and I would put my water quality up to anyones.

Come to think of it it's a insult to anyone who runs a drip

1. The substrate shouldn't get dirty if the tank has the right flow and the right tank mates to clean up

2. health rays should be turning over the substrate all the time cleaning it

I guess the tanks I have seen don't have the proper flow and just so you know fish don't keep your tank clean the owners,WC's and filteration keeps the tanks clean!

Changing water for good water quality is far different than needing to clean the glass for better viewing. And some people don't do updates as they have busy lives and some don't like to share so much

It's just comes down to I have more time as my job permits me to have lots of time plus I like keeping my glass and equipment clean as my hobby is my passion!!

I have 14yr old tanks that look brand new!! I would put money on it that guys with drips can't say the same as I have seen it.

Talking about water changes or drip setups does take water quality into consideration. That is why we have to do one or the other to keep the water parameters in check. Why does it always seem like you have to try and one up T1 or try to bait him into an argument?

Interesting that you think fish such as rays don't help keep your tank clean. Sifting sand like they do definitely helps keep the tank clean. You would think a long time ray keeper like yourself would know this.

And other people don't have as much free time as you do therfore one of the many reasons drip systems help out. Please do tell what having a 14 year old tank that looks brand new has to do with guys running drips? Did I miss something?

I still have my first tanks sitting around here as well they are a little older than that, If you would like to see a picture of them sitting here empty they look exactly like they did when I first purchased them, Bone Dry with no fish.

I sold my older ones as sitting around dry does them no good unless you plan on resealing them.

This is getting off topic so I am done after this so I hope I explain myself better.....I was referring to fish keeping your water quality clean. No fish keeps you water quality in check but they can give the appearance of the substrate looking fairly clean but not long with fish as messy as rays. I choose manual water changes over drips for my own reasons and 2 of them being I have a finished basement and I would neglect my tank cleaning if I had a drip. Just like I have seen with some people that have drips. The 14yr old tank was a comparison on how a tank can look doing manual water changes versus drip when the person gets lazy and doesn't keep their tank clean. Any more questions you can PM me.

I have run a drip since starting the tank up aound 18 months ago. My tank is clean, my glass is cleaned every other week, my cover glasses are cleaned every month or so. I dredge through the sand every so often to look for any dropped barbs. I change and clean the last pass piece of foam in the sump every week and clean the mechanical media once every few months. I clean out the overflows as and when needed. I test water once in a while and look at fish for health issues at least twice a day when i feed. Oh, and i change the filters to the auto drip system every 3 months and the bulbs to the U.V's every 6 months. So to say people who run drip systems don't do maintanence is ludicrous.
Weekly manual water changes are the way to go or even sooner as I have seen peoples tanks on drips and they are in horrible need of cleaning either it being the glass, substrate or ornaments or all of the above. Not to mention lots of times unhealthy fish go unnoticed in drip tanks so interaction like manual water changes is good for keeping an eye on the health of your fish.

Hence the reason why some people with the 1500 gallon plus tanks on drip don't do fish updates too often. They would have to spend a day just cleaning it so you could see the fish!!

X2. Drip system is just the start. Still tons of maintainance.
Along with a drip, I've also got a 150 sump packed with plants that takes time.
I also use a bead filter that needs to be flushed every week and that uses about 150 to 180 gallons
