or it could mean he likes to keep nitrates as low as possible.

Waterchange 50% every Th or Fri cuz weekends are for going out and doing relaxing things.

no, it doesn't need to mean either. it could also mean they know that that's the best way to do water changes. personally I think 75% is at the low end of a good water change.

and I can assure you I am not overstocked and my biological filtration setups are big enough for double the load. easily double.

Yes every week . My filtration is not under par. It turns the tank over 9 times in an hour . I just like really clean water for my fish . The colours are amazing after I do one and they grow a lot faster than average. Its better to have clean water than problems with fish health in the future. I also noticed with my fish in particular that clean water means less aggression , more spawning.

I would still do my normal w/c routine even if my nitrate were at 0. Just don't know what other "unhealthy" biproducts may be lurking at the molecular level that we have no idea even exist.

My test kit ran out probably a year ago. I do what many fishkeepers do, even if they have a test kit but aren't in the habit of testing.

-I follow an aggressive water change regimen. Depending on the tank I do 50-70% weekly, every single sunday. If I miss one I double up the next week. I also do weekly gravel vaccuming on my Oscar's tank.

It's excessive, but it keeps my fish healthy, has worked for me in the past, and puts me nowhere near the "danger zone"

The fact of the matter is, it takes just as much effort to do a 25% water change as say a 75% water change. That is unless your still doing it caveman style (like I used to) with a 5gal bucket.
