Water change sunday anyone?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Did all my tanks over the weekend did 75% on all but my 55g as I noticed my Bolivian rams were guarding a cloud of babies didn't want to disturb them to much so I only did about 40% there. On the bright side YAY FOR BREEDING RAMS.

In my 300 I add about 15-20 gallons every week from evaporation. I have no set routine for water changes. I change 50-70% water every 5-6 months.

20 gallons every week? That's a ton of evaporation. That number seems way high to me.

I get about 10 gallon every 2 weeks, but that is on my 120 so less surface area then a 300. I also live in las vegas the desert so the air is very dry lots of evaporation

Its probably 7-10 days I just a week on average..
I have a lot of surface turbulence lots of aeration in my water. So there is a lot of misting and moisture above my tank. Plus my tank is open top no glass covers only enclosed by a canopy that sits about 9" above the water. But its not completely sealed. I have lot of big openings along the back and openings on the front where I can stick my hand through and feed without lifting the canopy. I keep my sump level about 2" from the top. When it gets down to 8" is when I fill water back into the tank.
