water changes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It seams a little bit too much, water changes are fish load dependant , i have only one fish and do water changes only once a month 25% , the ph in my water is stable and i keep nitrates close to 0 always , my water readings are always low due to fish load (1 silver aro only) and also the quality of my tap water is good since it comes from a river and has little chemicals added , i have a salt water tank with corals and invertevrates wish are alergic to nitrates and never had a problem with it .

I do about 40% weekly.

Chemicals I use when I do the water change: Prime, Salt, I sometimes add stress zyme depending upon how my tank chemistry looks and I also add minerals to the water that are removed by the filtration (such as the "Essentials" line of mineral supplements). I also have a FX5 with 2 baskets of bio media and 1 basket of carbon.

I've noticed that the minerals help the coloration in my cichild tanks, so I'm testing it in the arowana tank. I haven't really noticed much of a change in my arowana or loaches. However, my fire eel is starting to get really bright coloration.

Hope my 2 cents helps a bit! =D

Those are huge changes for a 500gal. I thought large tanks required less frequent water changes.

that all depends on fish stocking but really no mater the size of tank or fish, once a week water changes is best for the fish unless you need more. I dont really agree with once a month W/C deal...

for me,

40 - 50% water change weekly.

10% water change daily ( kinda busy on work now, but i still do it 3-4 times a week).
