lol fisher, yes i did go throufgh alot of trouble! this tank was heaver then heck bringing it up 2 cases of staires! so im goin to treat this tank like a king!

and its also my only roomate i have to and all i need!

It depends of the stocking density, feeding habits, cleaning habits. Personnaly, I test for the nitates level and do water changes to keep it between 5 and 10 ppm. You can calculate your water changes needs at this adress : http://www.theaquatools.com/water-changes-calculator.

In my experience, a to big water change can tress the fish if they are not used to it. They can get use to it by increasing progessively the amount of water changed over weeks. If you have the time, it is best to do smaller water changes more frequently.

Nitrates is not the only reason to change the water (hormones and other polluants), so even if the nitrates level stays acceptable, a minimum of one water change by week is necessary.

Unless you are going to test your water parameter, mainly nitrates, you not going to know exacty how much water you need to change.

Just get in the habit of doing at least a weekly change of 50% and likely you'll be fine.

I meant if your going to go through the trouble of doing a water change, 40-60% isn't that much more work than doing 20-30%, but yes, it can be a real pain to get tanks up and down stairs!

If your going to go through all the trouble, you might as well do 40%-60% when your doing a water change. Especially since the water is free!
^^^ I agree, especially since your tank is only 75 gallons, it shouldn't be a big deal to do 50%+ water changes.

That calculator is dumb! How the heck would you know how much waste in terms of nitrates your fish produce daily. Absolutley laughable...as Bderick says, that's the best advice.
