Has anyone had any luck with hooking up a garden hose to the bathroom or kitchen sink and adding water that way during a water change? Adding a little Prime as the water fills up the tank. Dont mind taking the water out of the tank via the 5g buckets, but adding it back that way is soooo tedious. Just thinking of ways to simplify water changes.

Anyone with first-hand experience with this method?

They have a water change device known as a "Python" that hooks up to a faucet. It is set up that you can remove waste water and refill your tank with it.

I personally do not like it for the waste removal because it does not seem to have enough suction to lift waste from my larger fish. Also it requires you to continuously run water in order to keep the suction going. So I end up using the gravel vac into buckets and dumping them in my front yard.

Also most of the "Kits" come as 25ft and I needed it longer so I just ended up buying a 50ft drinking water safe garden hose, an adapter to go from faucet to hose thread and a plastic shut off for the hose. I check the temp at the sink, shut off the valve, go to the tank and fill it, using Prime dosed for the entire tank size as per its instructions.

Enough of my ranting!

this is how i do all my water changes on my 150 gallon tank im never going to use buckets again. I went to home depot bought a garden hose hooked it up to my faucet and done.

i also have a syphon hose that drains straight to a drain in the floor, no buckets for me.

After years of wasting water with my Python I purchased a Mag Drive 9.5 pump and use it to siphon/clean gravel instead of using the water running wide open to create the siphon.

Regular garden hoses will leach toxins and are not recommended.

Great idea with the pump! I'm going to have to get set up like that. Agree about the hose - find one rated as "drinking water safe" and you will be alright.

Yep did it that way while cooking tea last night.

After placing the hose in the tank I remember being at the sink peeling some mushies when I thought Oh NO! The dishwasher must be spewing water all over the floor...

I've been using the garden hose to fill up my tanks with no problems.
Even with the delicate blue rams.

I just siphon out the window and then add prime before filling up with the regular garden hose.

I use 75feet of garden hose to drain and fill my 330gallon. 75feet, ya takes a while to drain and fill. I need to buy a house so I can run plumbing right into the tank.
