Water conditioners question

Jason and others , Have you ever tried keeping a tank with out prime and knowing that your water is treated with chloromine? Anyone?

You can keep a tank just fine but when livestock is involved that stuff will kill them as well as shock or even wipe out the beneficial bacteria colony. Chloramine is a combination of Chlorine and Ammonia.

x2...

Skip "Prime" and buy "Safe". Powdered version of prime. Can be found online for $32 a kilo and treats 200,000 gallons. Pennies to insure you don't lose your livestock and or/biofilter.

Interesting. I have been using stress coat since I started fish keeping. May not be the "best" on the market, but the city I live in treats with Chlorimine and I have never had any WC issues using stress coat. To each his own.

How long has your tank been set up?

When I just started in the hobby I used amquel+, stress coat, and strees zime then I switch amquel+ for prime because a lot of people told me that prime is better now I was thinking to switch "stress coat and stress zime" for "stabilily" but not sure yet I have never had any problem using stress coat and zime :) I have my tank set up for maybe 8 months now just added sand and more filtration since I got the stingrays

I used stress coat before Scott, nothing wrong with it. Just switched over to prime because one it has other uses such as detoxifying ammonia if needed, plus I can buy by the gallon and much cheaper by the ounce that way, plus goes further being a concentrate.
When I had a personal well I never used any type of dechlorinator but when you use a municipal water provider they will increase their treatment of chlorine and or chloramine based on rainfall and other events. Read to many bad stories of losses of live stock from people who forgot treating water or were out and figured one time wont hurt. Well you never know, unless you age water in large vatts for your water changes, which is ideal but not feasible for all of us.
Whatever you use to treat I would always use something to treat or age water if you use a city water source. Or if you use a continuous drip which is designed to remove these additives automatically.

Well here is to a chloramine tank then. That will kill all live stock and the Bio. And breeding would be impossible but here is the fry .

Stress coat works, it's just expensive when changing several thousand gallons a week. Which is why I like Safe. does the same thing and is very inexpensive. Averages out to about $.16 a water change in my house.

Very nice tank and stock Didysis. Wasnt intending to criticize you for doing this because obviously your tank is proof it can be done. Just not interested in experimenting on my tanks with fish i have a lot of time and money invested in cuz the consequences could be catastrophic. Nor would i advise anyone else to experiment on there valued stock. Just like to err on the side of caution
