i do know two things, either for filtration you could use some of the submersable filters i've seen at petsmart, or use a hang on the back filter than use a big pile of drifwood at the "waterfall" to lessen the water running sound.


i kind of did something that you want to do, but instead, i lowered the water level on my 55 gal discus tank about 5 inches and put waterlettuce in the tank.........
too bad my lettuce died:(

if you do newts, fish wise i would say get feeder guppies as fish....... any type of small tetra (mainly neons) will be eaten by the newts........ that way if a guppy gets eaten its just an "oh well" could do hatchets too:D

it would be great to do corys but i wouldn't because the newts may bite them (not like it would do anything, but im sure it may hurt/scare the cories) lol......
