This might not be the forum for this but I consider it home. Why do most of the pics I see have the water level 1-3 inches below the frame? I've read, and keep my water up to the point that the tank looks full. Just wondering....

I dont think its really any reason. Some poeple get lazy and/or dont care. Some poeple though like to leave it a bit lower for some fish that need to go up for air once in awhile. I keep mine up to the rim too but slightly less sometimes.

Please also try not to forget .. some fish are rather active and looooove to come out of the water like a bullet straight into the tank lids ... trying their best for the ever loved tank escapes ... little less water = little less running room for the attempt.

maybe just a false hope ...

I don't think they know that the tank should be almost brimmed, right?

also some fish like to jump like aro's or african butterfly fish or hatchets so if its a little lower they have to jump higher

The articles I've read metion that the distance from the lighting source to the water makes a big difference in the spectrum recieved. Plus it looks nicer as you don't see water marks on the exposed area. I guess it's just a matter of taste and circumstance. Like I said, just wondering....

Often I fill to about an 1/4 inch below the support bars. But if you want increased aeration I will lower water levels. And heck it just evaporates over time. (IE I loose ~1 inch between water changes on my discus tank, though that is the worst of them with the high temps.)

Might as well complain about water spots on glass in pics too! LOL! :D

Knowdafish, I'm not complaining. But, If your going to take the time to post a proud pic of your treasured tank why not take the extra effort to clean the glass first? Holy Cr**, I hope I'm not starting something! Like I said, just wondering.... LOL
