I've noticed you've said you have had 0 nitrates. You should of had some nitrates in Your tank. That is the fish waste after ammonia is removed from the fish waste. Anything above 0 nitrite or ammonia is bad.
And also if you leave your gravel and filter sponges or pads laying in a bucket or something after the bacteria eat the ammonia there is nothing left for the bacteria to eat and they will die. So really it's a waste and you end up putting really bad stale water full of a lot of nitrates and probably a lot of bad bacteria from stagnant water back into your tank.

I have no nitrites or nitrates but ammonia seems to be a constant issue starting this tank. I'm just testing water and changing soon as I detect ammonia. about every 3 days.

Fish give off ammonia, u dont have the BB that turns ammonia into nitrate. Prlly need more ceramic media. Its hard to cycle a tank w/ a full bio load.

And to the guy above ^^ we have already stated all of that weeks ago. Plz read whole thread before u post!

I've used filters that were left sitting for months before, just kept moist. I ring out the grime and give a quick rinse then start the tank no problems, I do this on a bi weekly basis with my fry tanks practically. For whatever reason this tank has just been a continual headache.
