water params for oscar

I actually have been looking and i can't find this information..what are the best water params for an oscar tank? ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, (I already know the PH)

i've been doing water changes and i cant get the nitrate to lower.. I just did about a 50% water change and i did a 25% yesterday

ammonia 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate 20ppm or less would be great.


How large are your water changes, and what are the nitrate/nitrite/ammonia readings?

nitrate - about 80ppms, nitrite - about .10 ppms, ammonia - about 2.0 ppms(i need to get this lowered too...i can buy something to help my ammonia go down, right?


gosh i didnt realize how bad my water params were, sheesh.

well i know I need to do more, being that it's an oscar but gosh its so hard to find time sometimes, but i try to do at least 50% 2xs a week

What is your filtration? It sounds like your tank is cycling, or seriously lacking biological filtration.
How old is the tank?
have you recently changed filter media, or changed anything?
