What cheapie pump will you recommend from hardware store?
Thank in advance

Don't know the name. They are an off-brand. They are pond pumps.

The Harbor Freight pump is not a bad idea either.

I use a ehiem pump, it is quite powerful and drains 50% of my 400 litre (105 US gal) in no time at all.
I then dump the pump in my water butt and pump prepared water back in. All done in less than 30 mins, including filter maintenance.

Before I got a pump it took a long time, so now more water changes get done as I have the time.

I would pay attention to the head height spec. The Rio Plus 1400 has only a 5' height. That would barely reach the top of the tank and the flow at 5' would be very-very low.

I use a pond pump. Beckett G535AG20 550 gph, 3/4" ID tube, 13" max height (purchased at Lowes).

vfc- I would love to know more about your setup. Where are those pipes going etc
Do you use RO water? I am guessing you do hence why you store water.

harbor freight pumps ftw.. and they come with a 20' power cord..

$9-$60 ive yet to have one burn out on me..

TangoWRX,
I have two 37G trash cans hooked together to use for 50% water changes on my 150G. I also use it to change 50% on two nearby 75G tanks.

I have very bad tap water; high in chloramine (and other bad stuff). I need to premix my water conditioner (Prime) and aerate in for a couple hours before I use it.

Below are pictures of the setup.

I have two 3/4" ID tubes to pump the water out. One just hangs over the frame and the other is used as a gravel vac. The old water is sent to my sump pump where it is pumped out into a small creek in my back yard.

When it is time to fill up, I turn the two dials on the "Y" values and use the single 3/4" hose that's in the sump to fill the tanks.

Where did you get your Y valves and do they come in bigger diameters? Also, the connectors that look similar that connect to the faucets - are they same manufacturer as the Y valves. I have 1" hose, and that looks a lot less restricting than what I'm currently using for my plumbing.

SpeshulEd,
The "Y" adapters and two faucet connectors are the standard 5/8" ID garden hose connectors sold at Lowes. They also sell 1/2" ID but I didn't see anything larger than 5/8".

The "L" connectors and three bulkheads are all 1/2" ID.

The two 1/2" ID sides feed the pump. The output side to the sump pump is a 3/4" ID hose.

Do the valves on your Y adapters u got from Lowe's operate backwards like mine? So annoying.
