water softner

I run my water through only a sediment filter and a couple carbon blocks. I am on city water and it comes out of the tap a little over 7.0 pH. I have not found a reason to worry about changing it. I have a large RO/DI unit that I use for my saltwater reef tanks but not on the rays at all. If I had high pH water (8.0+) I would for sure utilize a softner.
 
i wouldnt bother messing with the softness or ph my rays have been in a ph of 8.4 for over 2 years and have breed 3 times in that

as long as you keep the ph stable you wont have any problems

i drip in 200 gal per day and my tap water is 8.4 so i was fighting a losing battle trying to lower it with peat in my sump and other things so i dont mess with it anymore

Where I toayally agree! But maybe flower rays is a different game. I have had rays for 5 years here on this system never had any deaths or issues until the flower
My ph is a little over 8

I agree flower and tigers maybe a different story

I wouldn't mind giving a system that works a go

Any links for that flash system with the LED read out

I'm bored so wouldn't mind giving something new a go

the only reason i've been thinking about it is because my water is super hard and my skin is literally cracking at all times of the year, it's painful. this was the route i was recommended, and was worried it would harm my aquariums.
 
ide be most worried about transitioning your fish from unsoftened to softened water since the install is done fairly quick.

Well... the reason I started this thread is because the place we just moved into has a water softner. Land lord told me it didnt work. The night we moved in, I heard a strange noise coming from the laundry room. Imagine that...the water softner was back flushing!:nilly: Anyway, the rays went from soft to hard water in one day and are doing fine...so far.
