I JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY EXPIERENCE WITH THIS STRADEGY. A COUPLE YEARS BACK I READ A ARTICLE ABOUT DISCUS BREEDERS AND HOW THEY DO 100 PERCEWNT CHANGES DAILY ON THE FISH SO THEY WILL GROW FASTER. SO I TRIED IT ON P BASS FIRST. IT WORKED. THEN DISCUS. IT WORKED. THEN THE EVER SLOW GROWING GEO. ALTIFRONS. IT REALLY WORKED. WENT FROM 2 INCH TO 6 INCH IN ABOUT 8 MONTHS. SO NOW IM DOING IT WITH MY RAYS. I JUST GOT A LEO FROM MIKE ABOUT 6-7 WEEKS AGO. HE WAS ABOUT 4 INCHES AND BROWN AS THEY ARE AT THAT SIZE. IN A 4X2X2 120 WITH CRAZY FILTERATIOON AND 3 48 INCH BUBBLERS AND UV. I BEEN DOING 50 PERCENT IN THE MORNING AND 50 PERCENT IN THE EVENING EVERYDAY SINCE THE FIRST WEEK. HE IS NOW OVER 6 INCHES FAT AND ALL BLACK. THATS ALMOST A INCH A MONTH. ITS ALOT OF WORK BUT I JUST POP THE PYTHON ON AND WATCH A MOVIE OR GET ON MFK FOR AN HOUR. JUST THOUGHT ID SHARE FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO TRY IT. IT WORKS.

ok then.............

Have you considered a drip system?

Great research Carlos. I guess that will work well for the people wanting to grow there smaller rays up to breed quicker. Myself on the other hand don't want my 8-9 inch rays to grow up to 24 inches by next year. I am happy with paying $7 a week to feed them now apposed to $7 a day LOL! I am going to stick with my 25% every 3 days.

Do you test your pH before and after?

Do you test the pH of your tap water before it gasses out and after it gasses out?

Do you have enough alkalinity to handle the urea output of rays?

You could be causing a pH roller coaster with each feeding... rays release TONS more urea/ammonia than the formentioned fish.. If your alkalinity is low coming out of the tap, you could be going up and down with every water change. Also if your tap water is low in dissolved oxygen it could come out at a low pH and then rise rapidly once aerated, and then back down after a feeding produces acidic waste (urea) ..

just a thought..

PS. caps lock are optional.. left hand side of the keyboard.

Nice, before and after pics please!

good one miles..

carlos, is this the same tank you just posted about with the rays having heavy breathing? maybe miles is onto something..the water changes could be too much for them?? just a thought!

100% a day besides being alot of work that has to be a ton of money! Growth like that is amazing though. I wonder what makes them grow that much better than say someone who does a 25% every other day, I dont think the water gets that dirty that quick.
