I do not understand how you can add chlorinated water straight from the tap into your tank and not hurt the bio in your media and your fish?

It is like picking up an empty revolver, adding a bullet, spinning the chamber, placing it to the side of your head, and pulling the trigger.

Just because nothing bad happened the previous times, it is not wise to say nothing bad will happen in the future. Many of my fish, I would never risk a Python style water change. It is way too easy to set up my treatment system.

GET THE PYTHON i have a 50 foot run i can clean my 40, 75, 125 in about 3 hours, thats doing about 50% water changes to

I also do this, put the water directly from the tub to the aquariums by a hose. Before of trying this, I used to carry on my back 40 times a bucket of 5 gal. when I changed the water of the aquarium. Since I do 30% waterchange in all aquas weekly, I used to loose all saturday and sunday on this.
The secret is to add the necessary amount of dechlorinator (I use Seachem Prime Pond) calculating the right quantity for the whole aquarium before (2 mins) and then add the water. While adding, put another dosis of the dechlorinator and then wait.
The first time I did this I was very nervous and did all the tests, but since you had added the dechlor. in the water before, it works immediately with the water added, and any chlorine is detectable. I have nine aquariums, going to ten next month, and this method made my life very easy and relaxed.
During two weeks I measured ammonia, nitrite and nitrate of all my aquariums daily after used this method and nothing changed, neither in the first day after waterchange.

Wow!!!! lots of great ideas!!! the way i have been doing water changes has been so far very successful and i have never had problems with the fish or bio...the fish seem to enjoy waterchanges....i might go out and try the python method to make it easier though..thanks again guys!!!!

i run a water hose through the house.
we have well water. so there isnt any chlorine

I use a combination of a python, rena xp3 canister filter and 5 gallon "crystal water" container (bucket will work as well).

I pump the water out and clean the tank with the python hooked up to the sink. When I'm ready to add water I'll take the pickup tube off of the python and just stick the tubing in to the water container and reverse the flow so it fills with water. I also put the intake tubing from my XP3 out of my tank and put it into the bucket as well.

I fill the bucket, add decholorinator, stir it up and then turn on my XP3. The XP3 essentially acts as a pump and pumps the water out of the bucket into the tank.

I'll usually do this teamed up with my g/f and have her turn on/off the sink to fill the bucket. Takes no time at all on my 30 gallon and saves your back. I just got a 125 gallon and I'm going to put my 30 gallon under that tank and use the same method, but fill the 30 gallon with water and let it "cure" during the week so the temp is about the same. Kind of like a sump but not automated.

i just use a hose run it over to the basement drain. when that is done i take the water lines off the back of the washing machine hook them to the hose with a y conector put a bunch of stress coat in the tank and let it fill
