Nope- though they're found in both brackish and completely freshwater areas. Mine stays in quite a bit less salt than a typical brackish tank at a level most fish could survive in but he'd eat anything that I kept with him except for another goby- He had a sleeper goby in with him for quite a while but I sold him. I tried a 7 inch bellycrawler pike but he didn't make it so there's not much else he could live with. Oddly enough he doesn't eat baby or very small fish- I've kept and bred many guppies in his tank!

Do you think they live longer in brackish or would a full freshwater setup be ok

Brackish fish like this the salt content would vary on a regular basis with tides I generaly believe that if a fish is brackish then you should keep him in a brackish tank though what that means depends totally on the specie of fish we're talking about. I do half to a third of what is generally considered brackish for him- 1tblspoon of salt for 2.5-3 gallons of water but I admit that it totally varies and I test the salinity with my digital tester. The rest of my tanks have 1 tblespoon for 5 gallons for regular fw fish. Brackish would start generally at atleast 1 tblspoon per gallon.
