  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just tell her you cant get the tank level and its making that corner to high with the rug under and there is a risk of your tank splitting from not being level...

actually this is a real concern. good eye!

part of the tank will be on the cushy carpet, the other part will not.

and you won't know the effects of the compression of the carpet in that area until its full..

to properly level and shim the stand it has to be on a flat uniform surface.

tell your wife she can have the rug there but she has to bring snorkelling gear:D

all kidding aside, looking at the pics again, you are not going to be able to properly level and shim this tank/stand with half on the carpet and half not. it needs to be on the flat floor with no carpet. or even all carpet. but not some on/some off.

I think you just won the argument with your wife.

Unfortunately that's what I do for a living (leveling large equipment) LOL Leveling a fish tank with one corner on the carpet is kinda like Kobe taking on a 12 year old in a 1 on 1 make-it-take to 10 points and Kobe starts with the ball. I'm Kobe and the carpet is the 12 year old.
Yes it's nice to start with a flat uniform surface. But the most important part is the stand. That stand is sexy! 2" tubular stock welded by a pro (not me) It is way over built for the amount of weight it will support. The stand will gently touch the carpet but the carpet will not support the stand in anyway.
Wife still has the upper hand here.....

I am guessing that is an expensive oriental rug, correct? So you definitely do not want to cut it out around the stand.
If the rug is already up against the opposite wall from your existing setup tank and there is no doorway on that wall, you might be able to roll the rug up at that end so the new tank is only sitting on the ceramic (I think) floor.
Or you can have the rug professionally shortened, though that will lower its value somewhat, if it is an original.

Is there any chance you can move the existing tank to the left, swap the new tank with the desk/armoire on the right and then put the new tank closer to the end wall?
That might give you more room to clear the new rug.

I don't think she does at all :)

I too have nothing but tube steel stands in my fishroom (my 150g stand is 1.5" tube steel). but my stand has 4 legs where yours do not. your stand design is better than mine for sure. but mine are commercially available up here so I had to go with it.

its not about support its about compression. that stand can suppport a few cars it looks like lol. its just that you will have part of the steel solid against the bare floor and part of it will be up on the carpet (compressed of course).

no matter what you do, its not going to be level unless you can raise the non-carpet part of the stand up slightly to match the level of the compressed carpet part of the stand. then it will be level.

confusing I know LOL.

still, this a lot of work.

good luck with whatever method you end up doing.

looking forward to the progress of this beast!:headbang2
