Wats wrong with my UMBEE???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a 1" gaping gash on my Trimac that got like this. I used a broad spectrum anibiotic containing 150 mg of Kanamycin Sulfate and Nitrofurazone. After 2 days I saw I huge difference and within 1 week the fungus was gone and wound was healing. In a month the wound was completely closed. After 2 months you could barely notice where the wound was.

I know that salt is great in a lot of instances but there is a point where you do need to use meds and I feel at least in my case it was the right choice. I to am not a fan of Melafix and would not use it. I tried it with no results in this same case.

what was the name of the anitbiotic?? if been lookin for a med that would heal it because like you said the melafix is not working, and im guessing should only be used for very minor cuts and mabey to fix rips in fins. it really looks bad, and im willing to try anything to fix it at this point

My lfs has a generic form made up for their store with their own labels. But it is generic for Furan 2 made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals.
I did pull my Trimac out and treated him in a quarantine tank as not to expose my tank and other fish
to the meds. Plus it is a lot cheaper than trying to treat a large tank.

i used melafix for a week< no results. im goin to the petstore today to buy some more meds, probally maracyn and maracyn 2< thats really the only anti fungal mads they have around here, ill posts some pics tonight, its really bad looking, the swore is the size of a quarter, and its starting to push the scales out around the wound. its rite by his anal fin which is never extended any more, if you know anything better to use please let me know

You need to use something. The Mardell line is a good product, I personally like Aquarium Pharmaceuticals or Aquatronics.

hes gone! i went to the pet store, bought $40+ worth of meds, got have way through treatment, woke up this morning and all 13 and a half inches of my male umbee was laying dead on the bottom

Sorry to here it. It is my belief that treatment with meds should have started sooner. Again, sorry.

You guys are jumping to conclusions here-

Why add chemicals----

Salt/temp raise,And pristine water condition should be all used to heal this fish....
agreed.
and dont be an idiot and put an umbie and a dovii in the same tank
:WHOA: :screwy:

Salt can work wonders but it isn't a miracle cure. There is no way it would have healed and cured the Fungal growth on the wound that my Trimac had. I maintain pristine water and you don't know that he doesn't.
It is sometimes recommended where a med would work much quicker. But only in a quarantine tank and if they are used correctly and in time. Just my 2 cents
