When dechlors react with chlorine,It removes all, I mean all the available oxygen. It is never a good idea to use dechlors directly in aquarium(yes I know what those bottles say). Of all the types of filtration,canisters provide the least amount of oxygen,and its the reason people provide an airwand or air stone to bring oxygen levels up. Some fishes can tolerate less o2 than others,parrotfish from experience need good o2 levels.Fishes can act "normal" for a period of 8 to 12 hrs. As the available oxygen is not there the digestive process stops and depending what's there(unless fasted for 2days)they might not be able to "kick start their systems".
