Well, since I got some very strong opinions on the Bahia thread I started, I figured I'll move on the the WC Ceara Kelberi thread! Here are my 2 Ceara's & please give some input on these 2. They seem to be very yellow with some blue in their bottom fins. No red at all. Is that something to expect or look for on a Ceara? They seem to be developing without additional color highlights on their fins at all. What else do you guys think about these? Do they show signs of WC or might they be CB/asia bred?:

They look wc to me also and as for everything else you'll probably have to wait until they're adults to compare traits to the original Ceara's that came in.

enlighten me, how can you tell a w/c fish from a f1.f2 etc?i wonder if theres info out there about where these really came from? I seriously doubt they are w/c but that's my gut feeling.i have nothing to back that up.

That's just my opinion like you have yours, theres nothing 100% to back either opinion up. They might be some good f1's but Im just guessing from what I've observed with Bahia's, the quality of them goes down hill the further they're captive bred, and these look to be quality cichla wc or not. The only 100% way to say a cichla is wc is if you catch it yourself. Lol for all we know they might not even be Cearas at all.

I agree unless you actually know from the seller and the seller is 100% reliable and knows exactly where it came from most are not going to be wild caught. I think its even worse when people just put the name wild caught on stuff knowing other wise. Unless im buying from someone that i can really trust and know they are honest im not going to believe anyone that says its wild caught personally. Ive seen people selling fish I got from a breeder saying they are wild and they are just hurting people trying to drive prices up. I say ban those people for knowingly falsifying information.

The lack of cb traits. But hey we don't truly know unless we collected them. I guess that would be the same with your Iterm and kels.

Id imagine if there were f1s from 2 different bloodlines and they both had desirable traits(look good, have good body shape etc), then you wouldnt be able to pick up on those poorly bred cb traits. Look at rays....when bred correctly they look much better than wc ones. Im sure this could be accomplished w/ cichla as well. But when you breed brothers and sisters you get default "hills have eyes" type offspring. THese days its hard to trust anyone other than yourself when it comes to collecting "wc" cichla. There is so much bs in fish keeping. Especially when it comes to making a buck or three.
